How to Deal with Anger According to Sunnah

Introduction

Anger is natural, but uncontrolled anger leads to regret, broken relationships, and sin. Islam teaches emotional discipline. The Prophet ﷺ emphasized anger control many times.

Sunnah Ways to Control Anger

1. Seek Refuge in Allah

Say:

A’udhu billahi min ash-shaytan ir-rajeem

Prophet ﷺ said anger comes from Shaytan.

2. Stay Silent

Speaking in anger leads to sin. Prophet ﷺ advised:

“If one of you becomes angry, let him remain silent.”

3. Change Body Position

  • Standing → sit
  • Sitting → lie down

This breaks anger-energy.

4. Do Wudu

Anger is heat; water cools spiritually and physically.

5. Walk Away

Leaving a heated situation prevents fights and backbiting.
